Dr Aoife Lane, Head of Department

Aoife has been Head of Department since 2017. She has a background in Sport Science, Health Promotion and Physical Activity and Health. Aoife leads a team of lecturers across Sport Science, Athletic Therapy, Physical Activity and Nutrition.

The Department of Sport and Health Sciences lies in the Faculty of Science and Health in TUS. The Department is home to five undergraduate programmes across the discipline of sport and health sciences. The two core sports programmes are Sports Science with Exercise Physiology and Athletic and Rehabilitation Therapy and the health science provision includes Nutrition and Health Science, Physical Activity and Health Science, and Exercise and Health Science.

Lecturers, support staff and students each contribute to a strong and vibrant unit with an ethos of support, respect, responsibility and fun.

There are currently approximately 400 students registered on undergraduate programmes in the Department. Each of these students take research modules throughout their studies culminating in a final year project in the last year of their programme. Each programme is underpinned by many principles including research informed learning and evidence based learning. In addition, each programme aims to develop graduate competencies around research to prepare students for further study on Masters or PhD programmes. Many of our current postgraduate students have progressed through the undergraduate pathway in the Department.
